An art space in the heart of Marrakech

Comptoir des Mines Galerie occupies a historic Art Deco building in Marrakech’s Guéliz district. Built in 1932, the building originally housed the headquarters of a mining trading company known as the “Comptoir des Mines” before being abandoned for several decades.

When Hicham Daoudi discovered the building in 2016, he chose to preserve both its name and architectural identity while giving it a new purpose. Restored with respect for its original character, the 1,200-square-metre building was transformed into an exhibition space whose architecture allows for ambitious artistic and curatorial projects.

Its historic Art Deco features — terrazzo floors, staircases, openings, mosaics and architectural details — are integral to the identity of Comptoir des Mines, creating a dialogue between heritage, architecture and contemporary creation.

A gallery committed to artists

Conceived as more than a conventional commercial gallery, Comptoir des Mines has developed a programme combining artistic representation, exhibitions, research, production and institutional collaborations.

The gallery works with both emerging and established artists, developing solo and group exhibitions that bring different generations of Moroccan and African artistic practice into dialogue.

This approach is rooted in a long-term commitment to artists: supporting the development of their practice, enabling the production of new projects, and fostering connections with collectors, curators, institutions and audiences in Morocco and internationally.

MAJAZ — supporting a new generation

In 2021, Comptoir des Mines Galerie launched MAJAZ, an independent artistic programme dedicated to identifying and supporting emerging artists.

Conceived as a space for experimentation and artistic development, MAJAZ provides selected artists with curatorial guidance and production support towards their first solo exhibition.

The programme reflects one of the gallery’s core missions: to provide new voices with the means to develop their practice and progressively build their trajectory within the contemporary art ecosystem.

From Morocco to the international art scene

From Marrakech, Comptoir des Mines Galerie develops projects and collaborations with museums, foundations and cultural institutions in Morocco and internationally, including the Bank Al-Maghrib Museum, Mucem in Marseille and MRAC Occitanie.

In parallel, the gallery has expanded its international presence through participation in major art fairs, including Art Dubai from 2021 to 2025, Art Paris in 2023, ZⓈONAMACO in Mexico City in 2025 and Abu Dhabi Art in 2025.

Comptoir des Mines Galerie was notably the first Moroccan gallery to participate in both ZⓈONAMACO and Abu Dhabi Art, marking two significant milestones in the gallery’s international development and in the representation of Morocco’s art scene abroad.

Today, from its historic home in Marrakech, Comptoir des Mines Galerie continues to pursue the same ambition: to contribute to writing, documenting and expanding the understanding of Moroccan modern and contemporary art, to support the artists shaping its new narratives, and to build lasting connections between artists, institutions, collectors and audiences in Morocco and internationally.
