‘Back to Mexico’ revives the first artistic connection between Morocco and Mexico, initiated by the late Mohamed Melehi at the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games, when he was selected alongside sixteen international artists to contribute to the “Ruta del Amistad” sculptural project. In this project, we witness a generational dialogue between an emblematic work by Mohamed Melehi and works by Mohammed Kacimi, Bachir Demnati, Mohamed Arejdal, Mustapha Akrim, Fatiha Zemmouri, Mouhcine Rahaoui and Khadija Jayi. An exploration of themes common to artists from the Global South, addressing climate change and its consequences, the weight of the working world in North-South relations, transitions in lifestyles and the risks of globalization.
