Mustapha Akrim

Born in 1981 in Salé, Mustapha Akrim graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan in 2008. His various works are the result of social research, in particular on the world of construction and workers with a reflection closely linked to the principles of citizenship. Aware of Moroccan social realities, he is working to open “several construction sites”, mainly “that of memory”, using his favourite material: concrete.

His installations question, among other things, the nature of work and the difference between building and creating works of art in light of the constant changes in society. He is part of the generation of artists who are developing a new language in order to redefine the foundation of expression in visual arts in Morocco, seeking new freedom of expression by breaking with the aesthetics developed in the post-colonial period.
