Larbi Cherkaoui
Larbi Cherkaoui was born in 1972 in Marrakech. He follows various artistic trainings, particularly in engraving at the Institut Français, and obtains his degree in Applied Arts. Larbi Cherkaoui is a visual artist who stands out in the Moroccan art scene for his ability to use traditional media to reveal bold research, sometimes combining Arabic calligraphy and abstract gestures. It lies in an artistic tradition that has raised the questioning of the visible of the Arabic language, and its powerful abstractions explore and emphasize this writing. Cherkaoui perpetuates her art through constant experimentation, coupled with her instinctive relationship with the sign and appearance of the letter. Observer of the upheavals brought by the digital revolution, he likes to confront today the traditional supports in leather with those which he realizes starting from electronic circuits to question us on the sense and the weight of the words today. Larbi Cherkaoui lives and works in Marrakech.
