Mouhcine Rahaoui
Born in Jerada in 1990, Mouhcine Rahaoui is a multidisciplinary artist who graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan in 2017. Through his collective and personal exhibitions Mouhcine tries to formulate the experiences and stories of the miners of Jerrada where he was born and raised. Son of a miner, he is inhabited by the gestures and materials he saw as coal, wax and candles. He ventures into the aesthetics of underground galleries to invent a visual lexicon that could be compared to the Arte Povera movement. A way for him to question the absurdity of the fate of workers. Since 2018, Mouhcine Rahaoui has participated in several exhibitions and artistic residencies nationwide and has presented three solo exhibitions: Summer's lab at the Cube Independent Art Room in Rabat in 2020, "Labor isn't destiny" at the space 18 Derb El ferran in Marrakech in 2019 and a double solo exhibition with the artist Sebastiao Catelo Lopes at the Dasthe Gallery in Casablanca in 2018.
