Mohamed Arejdal

Mohamed Arejdal was born in 1984 in Guelmim, in southern Morocco. Passionate about drawing and sculpture, he exhibited as an amateur at the age of 17. After droping out of school, he attempted a clandestine crossing to the Canary Islands which ended in failure. Right after his deportation to Morocco, he resumed his studies and then joined the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, from which he graduated in 2009. A few years later, in 2012, he declared his artistic birth during a mesmerizing performance on the Jamaa El Fna square in Marrakech. Mohamed Arejdal was able to lay the foundations of a multidisciplinary practice thanks to which he explores the links between social groups that he questions during his meetings or travels. His artistic performances occupy a very important place in his work where he does not hesitate to challenge the public on his condition as an artist, or on the meaning of powerful symbols. Since 2008, Mohamed Arejdal has participated in several exhibitions and major artistic events on a national and international scale, in particular, the biennial of contemporary art BIENALSUR 2019 in Buenos Aires in Argentina, the exhibitions "African Poetry" and "Crossings" , at the Comptoir des Mines Galerie on the occasion of the two editions of the contemporary African art fair 1:54 in Marrakech, the exhibition "En quête d’archives" at the Silent Green space in Berlin, the exhibition "Le Maroc contemporain" at l’Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris in 2014 as well as the exhibition "Cette fois, le sujet est personnel" at the Makan space in Amman, Jordan in 2012.
